Important Information for Incoming AOIT Freshmen

Congratulations on being accepted into the Academy of Information Technology!! I'm sure you're now asking yourself, "Now what do I have to do?" So, here it is.

For those who are on the waiting list, our best guess is that if we experience the same attrition rate as last year, we will be able to move everyone off the waiting list. However, that won't begin until May.

If you change your mind: If you are on the accepted list and change your mind about coming into our academy or if for some reason, you cannot attend (such as moving, failure of 8th grade, not passing the LEAP), please send an email AS SOON AS POSSIBLE that you will not be attending so that we may adjust our lists and move people off the waiting list. You do not need to give a reason, but please give us notice.

Scheduling: If you are in the Lafayette Parish School System, the 8th grade counselor will take care of this; make sure you mention to your counselor that you are accepted into AOIT. If you are not in the Lafayette Parish School System, you will schedule when you register at CHS in the summer (see below). No matter what, we will check all schedules before next school year begins to make sure they are correct.

LEAP Exam: If you are in the Lafayette Parish School System, you will automatically take this exam in March. If you are not in the Lafayette Parish School System, you will need to contact Jennifer Narcisee at the LPSS district office at 521-7080 to schedule the exam for March; it is suggested that you contact her sooner rather than later. In either case, you MUST pass the exam in order to get into AOIT (and to get into the ninth grade in a public school).

Eighth Grade : You must pass 8th grade to get into AOIT.

Registration at Carencro High: If you are in the Lafayette Parish School System, you are already registered in the school district and will automatically be transferred to Carencro High School. If you are not in the Lafayette Parish School System, you will need to come to CHS after you receive your final eighth grade report card and register in the Counseling Department. It is suggested that you call first (886-9128 or Main Office at 896-6192) to make sure the counselors are in that day and to see what documents you need to bring.

Parent Organization: Our parent organization is very active and is responsible for many programs and activities that we would not be able to do by ourselves. However, we are losing many great senior parents this year, and our organization can only continue when freshmen parents step in to take their place. Our general meeting times are the first Monday evening of each month but that is sometimes modified. We hope to have a schedule posted by the beginning of each school year.

Recruiting Insights: Since you have recently gone through the application process, you may have some comments, insights, or suggestions that would make our recruitment efforts better and more effective. We would appreciate them.
