Application Process
- The Fall Frenzy Schools of Choice Expo is held in early November. On-line applications are opened on this day.
- On-line applications for all Schools of Choice, including the Academy of Information Technology, may be made at http://www.lafayettechoice.com.
- Application must be made on-line. The following three items MUST be included for the submitted application to be considered complete.
- The student applicant must complete 3 short paragraphs in the application. If the application is submitted without all three of these paragraphs, they may be emailed to Joel Hilbun, Co-Director or mailed to him c/o Carencro High School, 721 West Butcher Switch Road, Lafayette, LA 70507. The instructions for these paragraphs can be found on this web site.
- A signed parental signature form must be mailed to Joel Hilbun, Co-Director. That form was available for download at the end of the on-line application process on the lafayettechoice.com web site. A copy of that form can be found on this site.
- A parent and student must attend a Small Group Information Session. One is held during Open House, while two others are held in late January. You only need to attend one session.
- Incomplete applications are not considered.
- The Academy of Information Technology sends a mass mail-out to all 8th graders in the Lafayette Parish Public School System during mid December or early January (just before or just after the Christmas holidays).
- Carencro High School sponsors an Open House in mid January. The program and faculty are presented and questions answered. A Small Group Interview Session is held.
- The deadline for submitting on-line applications is 11:59pm on January 31.
- Carencro High School holds two other Small Group Interview Sessions in early February. (Note: you need only attend one session.)
- The Academy of Information Technology determines which of the applications are complete (see 2a, i - iii above) and turns in those names to the Schools of Choice Office.
- The Schools of Choice Lottery is held in early March to determine who is accepted. The Academy of Information Technology accepts a maximum of 75 freshmen.
- All names submitted to the SOC Office are divided into two lists: those who are free/reduced lunch and those who are not.
- Thirty applicants on the free/reduced list are accepted, and the remainder are placed on a waiting list.
- Forty-five applicants on the non-free/reduced list are accepted, and the remainder are placed on a waiting list.
- After the Lottery, the on-line application is re-opened for late applications. A Small Group Information Session for late applicants is held in early - mid May. Late applicants are taken on a first-come, first-served basis and are placed at the end of the appropriate waiting list (free/reduced and non-free/reduced). If either group has no waiting list (due to not enough applicants in that group), then the late applicants are placed in the accepted list. The Academy of Information Technology will accept late applications through the first 15 days of the fall semester.
- After the Lottery and up to the beginning of school, applicants on the waiting list will be moved to the accepted list as openings occur.
- If there are still openings on either list at the end of the school year (due to not enough applicants in a group), applicants on the waiting list for the other group are moved onto the accepted list for the other group.
