October 10 Class Preparation, by Victoria Wessels

On October 10, 2007, two AOIT seniors, Victoria Wessels and Alyse Mouton, and Co- Director of the Academy, Joel Hilbun, attended the Acadiana Food and Folklore Media Initiative Class at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette . The class focuses on the culture and festivals in Acadiana. Dr. Charles E. Richard, class instructor, and Jennifer Ritter Cooper, project technical advisor, explained to the AOIT students the significant of our participation in the class. The purpose of our participation is to capture the behind the scenes of the multimedia efforts to document the Rice Festival and Black Pot Festival. We will interview and shadow the students during the duration of each project.

Each student is assigned a certain topic within the project. All the students must interview, collect data, film, etc. to receive grades. Andre Favors is the primary organizer for the research for the Rice Festival. He gathers all the information about the Rice Festival and sets up interviews to better understand the significant of the Rice Festival.

Robert Fairley helps out with the Rice Festival by interviewing past and present Queens of the Rice Festival. In addition, Robert will work on the Black Pot Festival by collecting all the main research for the project.
