Food & Folklore Initiative

In response to the downturn in the tourist industry in Acadiana after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the Lafayette Conventions and Visitors Center hired the University of Louisiana at Lafayette to put together a tea of professors, researchers, and students to put together a multimedia-rich web site on the foods of Acadiana. The site contains text narratives, Flash animation, pictures, and video interviews and is found at lafayettetravel.com.

The ENG499 class, under the direction of Dr. Charles Richard, will be the primary investigators in the 2007 Fall semester and will be focusing on two of south Louisiana's festivals: the Rice Festival, Louisiana's oldest continuous festival, and the Blackpot Festival, its newest one. As a part of the project, senior AOIT students will be creating a "Making Of ..." style "blogumentary." This blog documentary will explore the planning, preparation, and process of the interviews and video documentation involved in this project. We will also post narrative, pictures, and video clips of our efforts.
