Chamber welcomes Academy of Information Technology at Carencro High School

A ribbon-cutting has been scheduled for the morning of Wednesday, October 20, 2004 to celebrate the grand opening of the Academy of Information Technology at Carencro High School. The celebration will begin at 8:30, followed by a flag-raising ceremony at 9:00 and a ribbon-cutting at 9:30.

The Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Rob Guidry said that he gladly welcomes the Academy of Information Technology. Guidry, as well as several other Chamber dignitaries, will be present for the ribbon-cutting.

“The Chamber supports programs that endeavor to advance technology. We created Zydetech to advocate technology at all levels of the community, including business, government and education. The Academy is a result of that vision," said Guidry.

“Carencro High's Academy of Information Technology accommodates two of the Chamber's central areas of interest in community development; education and technology," said Mike Spears, Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Academy of Information Technology and Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce technology committee member.

“The efforts of the Chamber and the Academy will offer great synergies and opportunities for future Chamber functions, such as Net-Day events and Zydetech activities," continued Spears.

According to Spears, in its first year Carencro High's Academy is providing more than 70 students with an information technology-centered education curriculum; a concentration that he declares will make high school much more fun, interesting and rewarding for the students who participate.

“We wish those involved the best of luck and hope to stay engaged as the Academy progresses," concluded Guidry.
